What is bimatoprost?

Bimatoprost is a medication originally developed to treat Glaucoma. It is a synthetic analogue of a compound that occurs naturally in your body. While treating Glaucoma, it was found to result in the growth of longer and thicker lashes in patients, and was soon repurposed as a prescription-strength cosmetic product.

How does it work?

Prostaglandins are a group of compounds that occur naturally in your body and do the job of transmitting messages, regulating processes like the growth cycle of your hair. When you apply one of these compounds, or an analogue like bimatoprost, to the skin at the base of a hair, you activate and extend that growth cycle. This results in longer and thicker hair growth.

Because the cosmetic use of Bimatoprost was found in a medical setting, it means that it has been clinically tested to the highest standards and proven to be both safe and effective. Bimatoprost has also been the subject of numerous studies, all demonstrating minimal side effects.

Who can use these treatments?
